Part 5 – Home at Last

After everything she had been through, the day finally arrived.

Mimi Dolly Guli was going home.

Just a few weeks earlier, she had been a frightened stray with nowhere to go. She had been trapped, tested, vaccinated, nursed through a fever, and quietly rehabilitated at CatsHope™ while
the colony unexpectedly found itself facing the first respiratory epidemic in its history.

Now it was time for the next chapter of her life.

Tracy had waited patiently throughout Mimi Dolly Guli’s rehabilitation. Even as unexpected setbacks unfolded, her commitment never changed.

When the day finally came, Mimi Dolly Guli left CatsHope™ and began the journey to her forever home.

Like many rescued cats, however, the story did not end there.

Although she had found the family who had promised to love her, her recovery was not yet complete.

While Mimi Dolly Guli had begun her new life with Tracy, CatsHope™ was still battling the outbreak. The colony’s recovery continued well into June.

The day after Mimi Dolly Guli left for her forever home, Angel was finally well enough to be discharged from hospital after receiving intensive veterinary care. Although she had returned home, her recovery continued under close observation until her veterinarian was satisfied that she had fully recovered.

It was not until 10 June that nine of our resident cats were finally well enough to receive their vaccinations, with booster vaccinations scheduled for 10 July. The remaining five resident cats, whose vaccinations had been postponed entirely because of the outbreak, would each begin their own two-dose vaccination course.

Over the following weeks, Mimi Dolly Guli received her second vaccination.Shortly afterwards, she once again developed symptoms and required further veterinary attention. She spent 21 days boarding at the veterinary clinic receiving treatment and close monitoring.

It was another unexpected challenge.

Once again, Tracy stood by her.

Adopting a rescue animal is not simply about bringing a cat home when everything is easy. Sometimes it means standing beside them through illness, uncertainty and recovery, knowing that the difficult days will eventually pass.

Mimi Dolly Guli could not have found a more devoted family.

Today, when we look at the photographs of her relaxing, playing, exploring and enjoying the safety of her new home, it is difficult to imagine that this is the same little cat who once had nowhere to go.

Her journey reminds us that rescue is rarely a straight path.

Sometimes there are setbacks.Sometimes, there are unexpected costs.Sometimes there are sleepless nights, difficult decisions and moments when hope seems fragile.

But rescue is also about perseverance.

It is about people who refuse to give up.

A finder who stopped to care.

A trapper who answered the call.

An adopter who kept her promise.

A rescue that opened its doors despite knowing it was not the ideal time.

And one remarkable little cat who quietly won the hearts of everyone she met.

Mimi Dolly Guli’s story is more than the story of a rescued cat.

It is a story about compassion.

About commitment.

About second chances.

She arrived at CatsHope™ as a frightened stray searching for safety.

She left surrounded by people who loved her.

That is why Mimi Dolly Guli will always remain one of CatsHope™’s Honorary Mascots.

Not because of the challenges she unknowingly brought with her.

But because of the extraordinary kindness, resilience and determination that her journey inspired in everyone around her.
