Our Family Was Together Again
When we arrived home, everything looked familiar again.
The rooms smelled the way we remembered. The older cats came to look at us, curious to see where we had been. For the first time in many days, we recognised the sounds, the voices and the routines that had once been part of our everyday lives.
Even so, our family was not complete.
Mother was still missing.
We looked for her everywhere. Whenever we heard footsteps outside, we hurried to the door. Every sound made us hope she had finally come home.
Days passed.
We waited.
Then one day, she returned.
The moment we saw her, we ran towards her as fast as we could. Rockie reached her first. Cougar squeezed in beside him, and I pushed my way through until all of us were gathered around her once more.
She looked different.
She was much thinner than before. Her coat no longer looked as smooth and glossy, and she seemed tired in a way I had never seen. But none of that mattered.
She was home.
Mother rubbed against us and began washing our faces, just as she had when we were younger. We purred together, following her wherever she went, afraid to let her out of our sight again.
From that day onwards, we were never quite the same family we had been before.
We had lost the certainty that every tomorrow would be like yesterday. We had learned that families could be separated, and that home was something precious that could never be taken for granted.
Slowly, Mother grew stronger again.
So did we.
Although none of us knew it then, another member would soon join our little family, and our story would begin a new chapter.

I Wanted to Be Seen
When Mother came home, life slowly became familiar again.
The fear did not disappear overnight, but each day we felt a little safer. The food returned. The familiar voices returned. We slept more soundly, and little by little, we stopped expecting to be taken away again.
Something inside me had changed.
When I was younger, I had followed Mother everywhere. She made the decisions, and I was content to stay close to her. But after everything that had happened, I began paying closer attention to the home around me and to the people who lived in it.
I watched carefully.
I soon realised who made things happen.
She decided when we ate, when we went to the veterinarian, when new cats arrived and when frightened cats needed help. The other humans listened to her, and the cats looked to her whenever something unusual happened.
She seemed to know what needed to be done.
I decided that she should know me too.
Whenever she entered a room, I would quietly appear. If she sat down, I was never far away. If there was work to be done, I liked to watch. I wanted her to see me—not because I wanted to be the loudest cat, but because I wanted to belong where she was.
As I grew older, I became more confident.
I was no longer the frightened kitten hiding behind furniture. This was my home, my family and my place in the world.
I did not know it then, but I was becoming one of the older cats that the younger ones would one day look up to.

Finding My Place
Looking back now, I realise how much those early days changed me.
I learned that a home is more than walls and familiar rooms. A home is where you know you belong, where someone notices if you are missing and where you are welcomed back without question.
I also learned that families can grow.
After we returned home, Kimi joined us. She was not born into our family, but before long she became our little sister. We accepted her as though she had always been there. Families are not made only by birth. Sometimes they are made by love, shared experiences and growing up together.
As the years passed, I watched other cats arrive at CatsHope™. Some were frightened. Some were sick. Some had stories as difficult as our own. They stayed for a while, or they stayed forever, but each one became part of the life we shared.
I was no longer the kitten who hid behind furniture, hoping someone would come back for me.
This was my home.
These were my people.
This was my family.
I still enjoy being noticed. If there is work to be done, I like to know what is happening. If someone sits down, I may decide to keep them company. I have learned that being close to the ones you trust is never something to be ashamed of.
When I look around today, I see Mother resting peacefully, Rockie nearby, Cougar doing her own thing, Kimi somewhere not too far away, and the many other cats who now call CatsHope™ home.
Our family has grown far beyond the four of us.
Sometimes I think back to the frightened kitten who stepped into an unfamiliar house and wondered if everything had changed forever.
In a way, it had.
The ground beneath my paws shifted more than once. But every step along that journey brought me here.
I am Simba. I was born at CatsHope™.
I lost sisters, found them again in memory, left home, came home, and discovered that even after life changes, a family can become stronger than before.
This is where I belong.
