Cougar, Miss Congeniality

A worried little face—
Do you like me?
Am I pretty?

Pretty Cougar.

Now there is a brother
washing her ears,
another cat beside her—

and if someone approaches Angel Mum,
Cougar slips between.

She would like some attention too.

About Cougar

Arrival

Like Simba and Rockie, Cougar was born at CatsHope™. On 17 December 2020, Tamara Tigerlily gave birth to five kittens: Tigger, Kopi, Simba, Rockie and Cougar.

Cougar was the last to arrive and the smallest of the litter. In those early days, she needed help to make sure she had enough to eat. Eventually, she learned to move in among her siblings and claim her share.

Early Life

Little Cougar often wore a worried, enquiring expression. Her face seemed to ask, “Do you like me? Am I not pretty enough?”

Angel Mum began calling her Pretty to reassure her that she was.

As Cougar grew, she became a favourite among the other cats. They liked to settle beside her and groom her. The smallest kitten had become Miss Congeniality.

After Tigger and Kopi were adopted, Cougar remained with Tamara, Simba and Rockie. The four later left together for what was intended to be a new home.

Rockie tells their journey in The Journey. Cougar’s own story continues with her experience of that journey and the kittens’ return to CatsHope™—where a new sister, Kimi, was waiting.

Personality

Cougar is quiet, observant and easygoing. She watches what happens around her with an enquiring expression, often looking as though she is thinking things over.

For years, she was so quiet that the household wondered whether she could meow at all. Then a hug that lasted longer than she liked produced a squeal. Cougar had a voice. She simply seldom used it.

She is tolerant and affectionate, but she has her own mind. Simba may have his rules; Cougar does not always agree to follow them.

She is an easy cat to live with, rarely causing trouble. Her wishes usually arrive as a movement or a nudge long before they arrive as a sound.

Catitude

When another cat approaches Angel Mum for attention, Cougar quietly inserts herself between them. She does not need to announce her arrival. Her body makes the request.

Dinner has not appeared? Cougar leans against Angel Mum.

Someone else has the best place for a cuddle? Cougar moves closer.

The kitten who learned to step in for her food still knows how to make room for herself. She does it with very little fuss.

Playtime

Cougar enjoys playing catch the squirrel. When the toy comes out, she is ready to chase.

Her quiet manner leaves plenty of room for a lively game.

Appearance

Cougar has a sturdy build and an observant, enquiring face—the same face that once earned her the affectionate name Pretty.

Unlike the other tabbies in the household, she has no distinct stripes across her body. Her long tail ends in a small zigzag, one of her distinctive features.

Her expression can still look worried or thoughtful, even when she is comfortably surrounded by company.
Role in CatsHope™
Miss Congeniality
Cougar is the cat the others love to groom. Rockie and Simba are particularly close to her, and she is often found enjoying their attention.

She brings an easygoing presence to the household. She can accept affection, hold her place and disagree with Simba without turning every difference into a confrontation.

Quiet, tolerant and very much her own cat, Cougar is CatsHope™’s Miss Congeniality.

Current Life

Cougar lives at CatsHope™, closely bonded with Simba and Rockie and comfortable among the other cats.

She watches the household, joins a game of catch the squirrel, accepts a grooming session and keeps track of when dinner ought to appear.

And when another cat approaches Angel Mum, Cougar may quietly move between them.

There is room for Pretty too.

🌙 Loved by Everyone

She was never the loudest,
never the first to claim her place.

She learned quietly—
how to wait,
how to step forward,
how to stay.

And somewhere along the way,
without asking,
without trying—
she became the space
others rested in.

Arms around her,
hearts against her—
Rockie,
Simba—
both drawn
to the same quiet warmth.

She did not need to be chosen.
She already belonged.
